Chapter Nine - Glow In The Dark Dance

Tonight, ASG is sponsoring a Glow In The Dark dance in the Wind River Commons!!  There is tons of free pizza and soda and ALOT of awesome people to hang out with.

The ASG members blocked off the entire bottom floor of Wind River and decorated it with tons of glow in the dark paint and covered the room with black lights!!  There is also a pretty sweet DJ on hand to play some awesome music.

Lucky me, I live in Wind River and so I'm close to all the action and fun.  I would right more now but if I do, I'll miss the excitement downstairs.

I will post photos of this epic night later.  Until then....  PEACE OUT!!!  :) :)

Chapter Eight - I'm a Slacker!!

Hey there every out in blog land!!!  I am so sorry for my lack of blogs in the past weeks.  I have been so busy with school and theatre rehearsals.  I'll try to fill you in on the fun stuff I've been up to.

Earlier this month, the theatre department produced "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" and it was wonderful!!  I had the wonderful chance to see all but two performances of the show.  Here are some photos in case you didn't get to come out and see it.

It was so much fun and the whole cast did great!!  Well, that's is about all I can write for now because I've got class in a few minutes!  I'll write more soon!!

Chapter Seven - The Hypnotist

Frederick Winters - Hypnotist
March 24th was one of the best days of this month!!  The Associated Student Government of Western brought in a hypnotist to entertain the students and community.  Frederick Winters, tours all around the US and in very good at his job.

The night he came, he chose several college students and community members to come up on the stage.  I was included in that group and I was so excited to be hypnotized.  This was the second time in my life that I have been hypnotized and to tell you the truth...  I don't remember a single minute of any of it.

While you read this, keep in mind that I am only sharing stories that I heard from other people.  I have also seen the video of what happened which is rather comical.

Anyway...  He started us out on the beach where we were really hot and everyone took their shoes off and put their feet in the sand.  There were some boys that took their shirts off but that's another story.  Next we were on the worlds highest, fastest, longest and scariest roller coaster!!  They tell me that I was sobbing and that I wouldn't let go of my chair.  I am rather scared of roller coasters so that was pretty accurate.  Haha.

He said that we were all 200 years old...  We were dancing...
The 200 year old people trying to get out of their chairs together.

Yeah I'm kissing the Mic Stand
She was a good kisser...
I think that the funniest part of the evening was when the hypnotist put me to sleep and told me that the microphone stand was the most beautiful woman in the world.  He also said that I would want to kiss her every time I heard the word "pizza."  Now, I don't have to tell you twice, whenever he said "pizza," I went right up to the microphone stand and started kissing it....  Yeah, pretty embarrassing!!!  But don't worry, here are some pictures!!

Chapter Six - PAYDAY!!

Okay so this may sound so incredibly stupid but I want to tell you all about payday!!!  It is probably the best two days of each month, lets just be honest here.  The school is wonderful, the teachers rock, the theatre department is amazing but....  PAYDAY TOPS THEM ALL!!!  Payday occurs on the 6th and 21st of each month, in case you were wondering.
Best RA's Ever!!!

Here at good old WWCC, we have the wonderful opportunity to find jobs that will give a little bit of extra spending money.  For example, to the right, is Jewels Perry and Kylee Rich.  They are both Resident Assistants in the WWCC dorms.  Them get paid a small amount each month to run the main desks at Aspen Hall and Rocky.  They also get free housing I hear, which is pretty sweet!!

WWCC's production of "Stage Door"
Other ways to get a nice job is through your department.  I hear that just about every department has some type of internship you can apply for to get some extra cash.  If you are a theatre major, which you all should be, we have lots of jobs.  I work as an accompanist intern, which just means that I play the piano for a lot of students in their singing and acting classes.  It is lots of fun and once, I must mention that I get paid!!!

Well, I'd love to stay and chat more, but it is the 21st after all and I must go pick up my check!!!

Catch ya later everyone!!!

Chapter Five - Harry Potter in the WWCC Theatre

Okay, so this is a very late post but it was very worthy of posting I decided.

So, a few weeks ago, the RA's planned a special showing of the 7th Harry Potter movie in the WWCC Theatre.  It was very fun and, of course, the movie was excellent!!  The RA's even gave out popcorn to eat during the movie.

The funniest part of the evening was when there was an unexpected fire drill right before the movie started.  The fire marshall of Rock Springs had to come inspect the theatre for safety and they decided that it would be a perfect time to execute a fire drill.  Even though some people did get upset, the fire drill and showing of the film was very successful.

I know that is kind of short but it was very fun!  That is all for now.  i will write more soon!!

Oh and PS --- COME TO WESTERN!!!!!  IT'S FUN!!!!

Chapter Four - Utah Snow and Highway Patrol

This weekend was a weekend to remember, let me tell you.  I had to make a trip to Utah because my sister was in need of some help on Saturday.  Every so often, I get the chance to drive to Utah and hang out in the "big city."  It's so nice to have Salt Lake only 2 hours away because after spending a few days in the hussel and bussel of the city, you can always go back to Rock Springs and relax.  So, in short, I usually love driving to good old Utah.  However.....

This trip was quite different.  I was going down with a friend of mine, Kaylie Crowley.  She had a rehearsal for Westerns next musical, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.  Her rehearsal ended at about 10pm on Friday night and we left for Utah at about 10:30pm.  We had heard that there was going to be some bad roads ahead and so we were kind of scared to drive through it, especially at night.  However, we decided to go away...

Everything was peachy and there was no bad weather for a very long time.  Then, out of the blue, the storm came out of nowhere.  Just before Evanston, the roads started to become slick and the snow started to fall and blow around us.  We couldn't decided weather or not to pull off the highway and wait or just keep going.  We figured that we'd better keep going just so we don't get stuck somewhere.

So...  As Kaylie and I crawled along the highway at about 20 MPH in my poor little white Buick, we began to get even more nervous than before.  We had been driving for hours and hours it seemed and due to the heavy fog and snow, we didn't know quite where we were.  After about 3 hours of driving, we did know that we were in the canyon that eventually opens into the Salt Lake Valley.  As you can guess, that canyon has a large downhill slope for the last few miles until it opens into the valley.  We started out decent into the last bit of the canyon and the tires on my poor car could not grip the road.  We started to slide and the fish-tale.  We did a complete 180 degree turn on I-80 and bummed into the median.  Lucky, there was a service vehicle behind us that helped us to report the accident and get us on the road again.  It sure was a night to remember.

I guess that the entire point of my story is this, if you ever drive to Utah in a snow storm and you bump you car into the median, the Utah Highway Patrol Officers are very nice and friendly!!!

Well, that is about it for now!!  Stay tuned for more!!

Chapter Three - Theatre Kids on the Beach!!!

This was probably one of the most crazy weeks of my life.  A bunch of WWCC theatre kids were selected to go compete at ACTF (American College Theatre Festival).  This year, the festival was held in a little town called Arcada, CA.  This is the home of Humbolt University and it is roughly 16.5 hours away from Rock Springs.  And guess what??  We drove all they way there and all the way back in the wonderful WWCC school vehicles!!

We left on our exciting adventure on the 12th of February.  I rode in the "Mom Van" driven by my good friend, Zack Spurlock.  Zack is also an RA in the dorms here at Western and even though he is a "ginger," we still love him!!  Since the drive was super long and exhausting, we also needed someone else in our car that was approved to drive and so, my other good friend, Kylee Ogzewalla, was there to take over when Zack was tired.  The middle seats of our "Mom Van" was where all the coolest people sat.  Needless to say, I was in the middle along with my friend Tasha.  We had a blast doing what theatre kids do best, sing showtunes as loud and obnoxious as humanly possible!!!  In the back, we had two of the loveliest girls in the entire world.  If you ever end up at Western, you must meet Emily Larsen and Annie Willie.  They are two of the funniest people I think I have ever had the privilege of meeting.  Emily provided us with tons of snacks for the long trip which made everyone extremely happy!  Annie is pretty quiet but boy when you mention Garth Brooks, she sure brightens up!!

So, with the "Mom Van" all packed and ready we headed off the Arcada, CA.  Everyone did pretty well in their different competitions and we all had a blast doing what we love best, theatre!!  On the days we didn't compete, we found our way to the beach which was completely amazing!!!  Instead of telling you about it, just take a look at the pictures!!

This is my favorite picture of the entire week!!
After our exciting week, we all packed up again and started for home.  Let me tell you, it was the longest car ride of my life.  We ran into some bad snow in Salt Lake and had to stay the night there.  Eventually we did make it back safely to good old Western just in time to start school again on the Tuesday after Presidents Day!!

As I mentioned before, Annie Willie was one of the quietest people during the trip.  However, she did have a wild moment in which she broke out some Garth Brooks on her iPod.  Here is the video footage of this very funny moment...

Well, that is all for now.  I hope you enjoyed and remember....  WHY NOT WESTERN!??!!??!?!!

Chapter Two - "(mis) Fitting In"

Since I am a member of the musical theatre department at good old WWCC, I need to tell you all about the amazing new production that just opened up at the school.  The show was written by the head of the musical theatre department, Jamie Young.  It is called "(mis) Fitting In" and deals with bullying and peer pressure, etc.  Now, I know that sounds like an after school special but it isn't.  It has a great plot and a lot of great musical numbers.  I have seen it twice and I cried both times!!
"Ben Perry" and "Ella Swanson" getting in trouble in front of the principals office.

Some people also compare this show to that of High School Musical.  However, I believe that this show is much better than High School Musical.  The plot line is more intense and complex.  There is a purpose for each musical number instead of just having a song that doesn't necessarily help to further the plot line.  The show is also based upon real events that have happened in and around Rock Springs.
The cast singing "Aliens in the Lake" at the pool party.

The cast is so great and they get to tour all of Wyoming with this show.  It is some really hard work but they really pull it off!!

Anyway, come see "(mis) Fitting In" before it closes!!  Western students get in free with their student ID card!!  You won't regret it!!

Chapter One - The Crepe Party!!!

Last Saturday night, I had the awesome chance to go to a "Crepe Party" at one of my friends apartments in White Mountain Hall.  Let me tell you, it was delicious!!  The Musical Theatre students really know how to party!!

The party was put on by some of my good friends from the theatre department.  They provided all the food and all the guests needed to bring were plates and forks!!  It was pretty epic and the turn out was wonderful.

This is a picture of all the cooks for the party.  All the girls live in the apartment and Daniel lives in Rocky Mountain Hall.  They are all sooooooo much fun and they constantly make me laugh.
Chelsea Winters, Daniel Hagy, Anna Harris, Tasha Newman, Crystal Griffin

While we ate wonderful crepes and pancakes, we listened to some awesome tunes.  It was a bit loud and crazy but that was part of the fun.

Well, that is all for now.  Have a great day and I will be back later with more exciting stories!!

Prologue

Once upon a time, there was a magical, faraway kingdom known as Rock Springs, Wyoming.  Everyone that lived in the magical kingdom loved and cherished it very much.  The pride and joy of all the citizens of the kingdom was, of course, the castle.  This castle was built on the highest hill in the kingdom and looked somewhat like a very large high school or community college.  In fact, the castle’s name was Western Wyoming Community College.  Strange coincidence, am I right??

The castle on the highest hill - Western Wyoming Community College

One day, some of the citizens heard that their magical kingdom was in danger.  They heard that people in other faraway kingdoms were interested in living in the wonderful kingdom of Rock Springs.  However, they didn’t know or understand how fun and exciting Rock Springs really was!!  In order to spread the word about the magical kingdom, the Queen decided to appoint four ambassadors that would share the good news about the kingdom and the castle on the highest hill.

This is an account of one of those four ambassadors.  His name was Dale Hoopes.  He was one of the lucky citizens of the kingdom that lived in the castle on the highest hill.  During his time at the castle, he studied Musical Theatre.  He loved the castle and the kingdom.  He also loved sharing the excitement of being a part of all the wonderful events that happened there.

Dale Hoopes - Friend of Western

Chapter One of our story will begin soon so be sure to keep reading.
